Some states will have "sales tax holidays" only this month for their residents, where some items are sold free from the usual sales tax.
Sales tax holidays on this weekend:
* Alabama From today onward till August 3 on clothes under $100, computers under $750, school supplies under $50, and books under $30.
* Iowa Only Today and tomorrow on clothes and footwear under $100.
* Missouri From today until Sunday on clothes under $100, school supplies under $50, software under $350, personal computers under $3500, computer peripherals under $3500.
* New Mexico From today until Sunday on clothes under $100, computers under $1000, and school supplies under $15.
* Oklahoma From today till Sunday on clothes and shoes under $100.
* South Carolina From today until Sunday on clothes, apparel accessories, footwear, school supplies, computers, printers, software, bath wash clothes and towels, and bed linens.
* Tennessee From today until Sunday on clothes under $100, school supplies under $100, and computers under $1500.
* Virginia From today until Sunday on clothes under $100, footwear under $100, and school supplies under $20.
* Washington DC From August 2 through Aug 10 on clothes under $100, shoes, apparel accessories, and school supplies.
Sales tax holidays coming soon:
* Connecticut Aug 19 to Aug 25 on clothes and footwear $300 or less.
* Massachusetts Aug 16-17 on almost everything. Excluded are commercial-only products, vehicles, services, tobacco, gas, and meals Everything else priced $2500 or less is tax free within the state during that weekend.
* Texas Aug 15 to Aug 17 on clothes, belts, hats, diapers, and backpacks.
* West Virginia Sep 1 through Sep 7 on Energy Star products under $2500
NOTE:: States which include "personal computers" in their sales tax holiday usually include monitors, printers, and peripherals when bundled with the computer, and may not include monitors and printers sold separately.
